Data Restoration

Starting August 25, 2026, 8:00 AM SGT, affected users can restore their account and conversation data using the backup packages saved during the data backup period.

Data Restoration Guide​

Type A and Type B Users​

  1. Log in to your Monica account. Data restoration will be available on the Monica homepage and in the Data Backup Center.
  2. Start data restoration. Select Restore Chat History and follow the upload instructions.
  3. Import your most recent Chat Data Backup. Upload the original encrypted .monicacontent archive and wait for data restoration to finish.

Type C Users​

  1. Restore your account first. Open the dedicated Monica account restoration page and upload the Account Credentials Backup you exported from the Data Backup Center. The system will verify the credential identifier before restoring the account structure.
  2. Log in to the restored account. Use the original account details unless the Data Restoration Guide instructs you otherwise.
  3. Restore conversation data. Start data restoration, select Restore Chat History, and import your most recent Chat Data Backup.

Important Data Restoration Notes​

  • Data restoration is a one-time action: Confirm that you are importing your most recent backup before you begin. Do not import the same archive repeatedly, because this may create duplicate data or errors.
  • Keep the archives unchanged: Upload the original encrypted files. Do not extract, modify, rename, or recompress them.
  • Change your email after data restoration: If you want to use a new email address, first restore the original account, then update the address in account settings. If you already created a new account, you may still be able to restore the original account through the guided Type C flow if verification succeeds.
  • If data restoration fails: Confirm that you are using the correct archive and following the required order. Type C users must restore the account before importing conversation data. If the problem continues, contact Monica Support at contact@monica.im with the error message and a screenshot.

Welcome Back Bonus​

After successfully restoring your data on or after August 25, 2026, 8:00 AM SGT, eligible affected users will automatically receive a grant of Advanced Credits. The amount is based on the user's type and subscription tier at the time of the original notification, ranging from 1,000 to 60,000 Advanced Credits.

The actual interface and official announcement govern final eligibility, credit amount, claiming rules, and distribution method.
